My name is Chi Nguyen, I was born in 1987 in a small village, South East Vietnam. I lived with my maternal grandmother from when I was one and half years old until I was six while my parents were in Indonesia. I didn’t grow up with any brothers or sisters, but I grew up with my two cousins. One of my cousins is the same age as me, he is only younger than me by 2days and the younger cousin is younger than us by 2 years old. My grandmother was very strict, so we didn’t have much freedom and also we were unspoiled children, but she is a very kind and careful lady. I started living with my paternal grandmother when I turned seven until I turned twelve. Then I came back to live with maternal grandmother.
I went to primary school when I was five until I was ten years old and then I went to High-school, it was the most wonderful time for me in my whole life. I had many friends and enjoyed studying. I always got awards for many subjects and I was the top student at school as well. When I was 15 years old, I moved to a bigger city, it called Cantho to go to intermediate school until I was 17 years old.
My family and I immigrated to New Zealand on the 26th of July, 2004. We came to NZ with no English at all and it was a hard time for us. After 2months I was going to High-school in Thames, because I have an uncle is living in Thames. So he was helping us everything because I can speak English and also he was living here for over 20 years. At the first a few months I couldn’t stand with the weather, language and food in NZ, because it was a big change for my whole life and also I’ve ever been abroad before so it was very hard for me. I got used to it when I started go to school because I met more people and made some new friends. I have 3 good friends in NZ and they are Kiwis, they were helping me a lots because I couldn’t speak English and also I have many kiwi friends as well.
I graduated 2 years High-school in Thames last years and now I’m studying Academic English course at the Language Institute at The University Of Waikato, Hamilton, because I want to get IELTS test of the score 5.5. So I can apply to Wintec next year for study Travel and Tourism course to become fight-attendant, it is my dream. My present life is much better than before while I live in NZ I found that people in here are very friendly and also NZ is a good place to live. I start love NZ and refer to live here because of the nature and many beautiful beaches.(491)
